Most Expensive Photo in the World

Postby BrianMDoucette on Fri May 13, 2011 2:18 pm

Wow, I just read that a photo called untitled #96 by Cindy Sherman sold for 3.89 MILLION dollars! Personally this particular shot does nothing for me, but holy cow thats a lot of cash! I suppose there are lots of complimentary colors and shapes. The subject does have an interesting look, but come on, almost 4 million dollars, yikes!

This is a link to a small article and a small version of the image

I guess it goes to show that the value of something is the price someone is willing to pay for it, it doesn't do much for me but there you go. I just hope that someone decides one of my shots is worth millions!

So yeah maybe we can start charging by the pixel

I don't really see why it would be so expensive. I mean, I liked the runner-up more - 99 cents II Diptychon by Andreas Gursky (it was sold for like $3.35mln or sth)

Image

I'm not an expert, though, so I often don't understand what's so special about a certain photograph compared to another, if they are in Sherman's picture's style.

Well Andreas Gursky now holds the title, take a look at this

4.3 Million for THAT! I guess the qualities of the shot escape me personnally, I really don't understand why someone would pay that kind of money for this kind of image, very very bland shot, in my opinion. I must be missing something...

my 2 cents,

The sheer pretention in art never ceases to amaze.

Great comment Troy but just think of all the money you've lost. To quote Del Boy "This time next year I'll be a millionaire." :D

Ditto Troy, there must be a pile of these shots in many waste bins (electronic or otherwise)

I guess there is something to this advice: NEVER delete an image no matter what (might be worth a buck)... ;-)
