Property Release

Postby thomasessl on Mon Sep 06, 2010 11:01 am

Hy everybody!

Concerning this topic I have two questions for you:
1) If I make a picture series of a city and want to sell these photos afterwards: How do I find out the easiest, for which buildings a property release is needed and which not? Do I allways have to ask the owner? Or is there maybe something like a database for such informations?

2) If I make a foto of a certain car and sell it, I`ll propably need a release from the manufacturer. But If I have a shot from a road where some cars are driving, I guess, I dont. So where is the boarder? Is it the number of the vehecles or the percentage of image-space one needs?

It would help me a lot if you have answers for me.
So thank you in advance.
Cheers Tom

Hi Tom,

1. No need for any consents when shooting buildings, just fire away and sell as you please. I think if you broke into Buckingham Palace and took a photo of the queen's loo someone may get upset, but not when shooting in the public realm.

2. Cars I would say likewise as long as you're not trying to sell it for some illegal gain. (can't think of any)

Cheers

Google displays photographs of every building on every street on Google Earth! Not to mention people's cars and the odd cyclist. The license plate is blurred out on vehicles though, aren't they?
