lol... I think it was me who raised this about 9 months ago.... :D

to be honest i've grown a little bit since then and now I pretty much sit on the fence..

on one had I still think somethign should be done like I said 9 months ago and in the previous topic 9 months before that..but on the other hand i'm very maluable and I can see and appreciate the other view ..

personally I dont think anything will be done about it which is why I lost the will to live and argue about it the last time...

but I think one thing that could help is the fact that DP or whoever upload images in bulk........ I.E people may upload 1 or many images all in an hour and then DP release ALL AT ONCE approach instead of 1 image at a time when they are uploaded by the user......so sometimes you will have no updates and then BANG... 150 new images to view.....

IF they just released each image to the site as it was uploaded then I think this would help alot.....and then VETTED them once they were on the system.

Medley wrote:Jim, I certainly hope that nothing I said has put you off. Indeed, I'm one of the ones that is all for people uploading their images. New people can come to learn. Professionals can come to teach. And none of us is so worldly that we can't learn a thing or two along the way. It's just my personal philosophy.

But the reason that I'm posting now is that I'm confused. I uploaded an image yesterday afternoon (Saturday) at around 4pm (Pacific Time). It's now 9:18am Sunday. My image is among the latest images. But here's the thing. Assuming that the newest image is posted at the top of the front page, then there have been exactly 30 uploads after mine at the time I write this. 17 hours later, there are a total of 31 new images.

Now, I understand that that may not be typical. But I would think that the weekend would be when the majority of us are out shooting. And, apparently images ARE being added on the weekends. It just seems like more of a non-issue than ever.

Nothing you said put me off Joe. I can understand your confusion. A few weeks back I put up an image or two and they popped up behind some that had been posted before mine. Not that I am complaining but it can be puzzling I guess. Some really good images do get lost in the nether regions of the galleries. However the real outstanding ones do seem to get the attention they deserve. Weekends are a bit of a problem but the person resposible for approval is entitled to time out as well.
To be honest I don't think there is an answer to this that would satisfy everyone.

I don't want to chime in so late, but have been following the thread over the past few days, and even voted on the other index, I thought I would. This whole (non?) issue seems to stem from the irritation of having to trawl through upwards of 200 to 300 images every day to find the hidden gems that tickle your fancy

I suggested to the DP team, that they look at their user search interface (not a particularly enthusiastic response, although they seemed to like the Favourites idea). Currently all you can do is search for a picture by name (which is kind of pointless if you haven't seen it before), and category (which is almost as pointless as I often find images miscategorised by the user).

For what is essentially a database of images, I would think it a better strategy to upgrade their search functionality to make it easier for us to chop the numbers of new images up to something more managable. That way DP can retain their excellent oversight mechanism (which I personally applaud), we as users don't have to spend hours renavigating through the new images every time we comment - particularly irritating for those of us with less than light-speed internet connection and/or, hardware which is creaking under the strain - and improves the whole user experience so they might actually gain or keep more of us.

Sorry if this seems to be going off topic  , I have a reputation at work for giving opinions, and my friends there have learned to ignore me when I go off on one  . But that's my tuppence/two cents.

Great discussion, haven't seen one so lively for a while :) .

Cheers

John Holme wrote:Hi everyone,
Of late it appears that some people upload a flood of pics per day, Yes they are good, but I feel it would be better to upload a maximum of 3 pics per member per day.
Why, well in my opinion more people would comment on more shots if they didn't have to wade through 200 or so shots per day.
I would also like to get in touch with the odd member to share advice. Would it be possible to include an email address in their profile so one could send a private message to them?
Thanks

John

"Nice Thought man. 3 Photos are more than enough. People will also get appropriate comments of each one. My uncle is a wedding photographer in Glasgow so I have so many nice photographs but I can not upload all of them here.
