All members with web sites !

Postby seanie_pc on Thu May 06, 2010 12:17 pm

Hi All,

I have my own site its http://www.seancampbellphotography.com/ and I was wondering for all you other members out there who also have their own sites are you interested in a wee bit of SEO?

The number of back links you have can affect your page ranking, the more links the better your site wil be ranked..Now its not the only SEO technique out there but its a very easy one for us all to do together.

If anyone is interested in this post you own link here and I'll add it onto my link page on my web site and you can add mine. There more people that do this the better results you'll get.

Drop me a line if your interested.

Sean

I would be interested, does this SEO work if its written inside a flash file?
or does it have to be in html for it to work?
I was thinking of adding a links html file at the bottom of my site next to the contact button.

Thanks for replying folks.

Its simple really. Create a page within your site called "Links" on this page add your back link url's. Chek out my link page as example http://www.seancampbellphotography.com/links.html

No that I have you links you would need to put my link on your site. Google uses the numebr of back links on you site as one of the method os page raking. The high you rank the higher up you are when someone googles your keywords..Here's the catch..I have to have your link on my site and you have to have mine on yours.

Now here's a fact..approx 30% of ALL hits on my site come's through back links...now thats easy traffic...the more hits the more chance of sales etc... Let me know if this helps and anyone else interested add to the post & I'll be in touch...

We're all in this together !!

Sean,

I thought I'd add my tuppence. I spent a lot of time looking into SEO when I created my website last year. Your are indeed correct that Google likes to see external links back to your website, but it should be caveated that they should be good quality links. i.e. links themselves are ranked higher if from a highly rated site.

However, the single most important thing to consider is how do you want to be found on google? If you type in 'Chris Humphreys Photography' you'll see me at the top, type 'Chris Humphreys' and I think I'm about third. But who is going to type either of those if they're looking for landscape images of Scotland! I'd much rather be found by someone typing 'Architectural Photography' for instance, hence why you see 'architectural photography' 'landscape photography' etc in my sig below, both of which point to my site. (not that it's having much effect on google at the moment!)

There's a powerful example of this you can try. Type 'pdf' into google, what comes up? ...........'Adobe' right!? This is because of all the millions of site out there that have pdf files with a note below them saying something along the lines of 'you need pdf reader to see this file' with a direct link back to Adobe from the words 'pdf reader'. Google associates the word 'pdf' with the Adobe site because that's where all the links point to.

So, yes it does make a difference having lots of good quality links pointing back to your site, but you've got to consider how you want to be found in a search.

There are other simple things to do like setting up a local business link on google maps. If you get google map on your screen and get the whole of the UK in view, then type in 'architectural photographer' I think I come up as location D or close to. This then links back to my site.

Anyway, I'm happy to link back to your site, but it would need to be from my blog page as I don't really want to add in a dedicated links page.

Sorry, didn't mean this to turn into a lecture.!

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris,

you're quiet right. However, the more hits your site gets the more popular is becomes and this will affect your page ranking...Backlinks are only a small element of course..It also doesnt matter where you put you links, the forum is grand as the Googlebot searches your entire site..Back links are a really sinple thing to do and really everyone should include them.

Hey, if you really interest in search engine optimization I have a cool Ebook dedicated to Google search optimization. Anyone wants a copy let me know and I'l email it to you. Its full of good stuff and will help you create a site that's easier to find in Google.

Cheers,

Sean
