Shooting Fine Art black and white does not just mean digital conversion from color and monochrome. It involves a discipline of vision creating something that you want to print and hang somewhere, get in a book or published. twin trees in infrared mono. The scene provided a mixture of fine light and angry thunderstorms greeting the morning at Pagbilao, Quezon (Chasing Light Landscape Workshop Sunrise Location). Exactly what the weather forecast predicted that we would witness. Was drawn to the simplicity of this scene given the shadows and the rocks lined up to the mangroves of the sea. Sand was sticky and tides rising, first light before heading to the better vantage area. a fantastic day to be out on the field. however, had to go to the mall for school opening shopping for my daughter. thought of going up the 10th floor staircase from our building to take an infrared image of the afternoon drama. After the sunrise we transferred to take a shot of the famous church sitting at lake tekapo... would have been a sight to see this filled with snow only 3-4 weeks away from when I was here. busloads of tourists were arriving and going i had to wait for my time to take this image. shot this using a hoya infrared r72 filter then rendered in black and white. LAKE TEKAPO, CHURCH OF THE GOOD SHEPERD, NEW ZEALAND Everyone in the workshop was now in the sunset mood.. taking shots of the lighthouse... about 3 of us. My partner Raymond Cruz and Alumni David Cheng were already anticipating what would happen on the other side. Here is a sunset image without the lighthouse at the  far end. Ideally, we would have wanted a bit lower tides and a stronger swell... but given the quality of sunset light the past weeks, this is already a stunner. on the way back from an 840pm show at songs of the sea... got to fullerton a little past 10pm for a quick bite... while waiting for our order, some unexpected clouds came from the back for a 10 minute window, just the right place at the right time from a site now neglected by photographers as they frequent the now more popular helix bridge. hooker trail closed, late spring. had to take the shot from the outside... good thing there was a snow storm that filled the park the day prior. the tasman sea in its scary furry.... had the time the shoot and the walk back in order to make it in one piece. The Colors of The Morning at Sisiman Bay dominated the scene, a perfect example of Photographing Light Itself.  Here I was about 10-15 forward of three other companions who had to shoot my behind as well. Sisiman Bay, Mariveles Bataan Philippines Christian Lim 2010 a calm sunset before the fiery sunrise on mono lake, pink alpine glow illuminates south tufa, was banking on a good sunrise so went for some simple compositions the day before and just appreciated the simple colors given. no tripod as I got tired of walking around with both hands tied up. went to south ferry mall for some grub, while waiting for the food found time to tie my camera and lens up on some steel wiring and was able to expose. a long patch light on the sierra served as a nice backdrop to these isolated tufas on mono lake, it pays to wait just for the right moment. almost called it a sunrise, waited for a bit more to see this scene open up. definitely going to hang on my wall. too late for better light... it will take some discipline for some people to get how important time is just to get to a spot early enough. if you don't realize its importance and just rely on chance, then landscape is not for you. some thoughts on the going's on while we were on our way to this location. still, glad I was able to make it even if it was just for a short while. a beautiful morning at the sound.. walking around the shoreline looking for a position to take a shot of the reflections. framed this one with the idea of going from left to right by not putting Mitre Peak at center stage where it would be in most images, I had already done that a bit earlier so I was looking for one more shot that would diffuse his dominance and do a play on repetitive peaks. On the way to Greymouth passing through the Lake Region of the Mighty West Coast of New Zealand, Lake Mapourika is a place for some water activity. I was lucky enough to have been given 5 minutes to take a shot before they run havoc on the calm waters. A cold, foggy morning gave way to a beautiful scene. Christmas is ON! The Ayala Triangle Park, Makati Philippines, Lights up like a fireball every night until Christmas Eve! This one taken looking up with the Moonburst, as there were hundreds of people on the ground watching the activities. As we enjoy the holiday season, lets not forget its not about gifts and parties, its about the birth of our savior. Cheers!!! the scene has changed a bit in this area now with tons of light and structures being built all around, but fitting for a return trip with some students for some practice in nightscapes, this one taken with a 15mm fisheye then Beautiful rock formations, or should I say... borderline Alien on the Taiwan Coast... constantly hammered by the typhoons of the Pacific Ocean, the Northeast Coastline is home to the most interesting, diverse and dangerous seascapes in this part of the world, a hard time finding this area in auckland without a car, bummer that i found it on a sunday night... a friday night would have been awesome as the cars would fill up the motorways. a nice view of the auckland sky tower... shooting this during sunset or sunrise would have also been great. AUCKLAND CITY, NEW ZEALAND Some images just feel right though rules of composition are somewhat broken. I love this image for the mood, drama and unearthly feel of it. Taken during the new year sunset in Mono Lake, CA.
