Jim Lehrer, Pbs, Arlington, Va, 2011, By David Joseph Marcou by david marcou
Several weeks' before my April 2011 visit to Washington, DC, I decided a photo-session with the notable newsman, author, and Presidential Debates moderator Jim Lehrer, a fellow Mizzou J-School Alum, would be fun, though he graduated in the 1950s and I in 1984. (In recent years, Leatherneck Magazine had said Jim was, for three decades, the most visible Marine in the nation.) I contacted his assistant, Ms. Roma Hare, who was very positive about it. When I photographed Mr. Lehrer on the set of the PBS NewsHour, I also photographed other co-anchors there then, and much of the production team, too. My best photo-portrait of Mr. Lehrer (above) was published on the MIZZOU Magazine Facebook Page. Jim and I conversed for 5 minutes as I made photo-portraits of him, just before he went on-air. He was funny and gracious, a true gentleman. He has since retired from the NewsHour, and may be working on another book (he's written many). Thank you, Jim Lehrer and Roma Hare, and all the good people on your staff too.
